Proclaiming Good News

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19 NIV)

Jesus had been baptized by John the Baptist, spent 40 days in the wilderness then started His ministry.  On a Sabbath in His home town of Nazareth, Jesus was asked to read from the Scriptures.  He read from Isaiah 61:1 which was a prophecy written about 600 years before Jesus, prophesying about the mission of the Messiah.  Messiah means anointed one.  Jesus came to give us spiritual freedom from sin.  He came to open our eyes to truth.  He came to show us the love of the Father.  He came so that we may be in His Kingdom and live with Him throughout all eternity.  What an awesome God, friend, savior, and redeemer!
